J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works is a revival of a family business that started in 1813 on the Virginia frontier. Malden, WV sits on top of the remnants of the ancient Iapetus Ocean, one of earth's earliest seas. The salt has been dissolved by a fresh water aquifer and is drawn to the surface with a well. It is solar evaporated, then hand harvested on the same family land that their ancestors used to make salt in the 1800's. The mineral rich salt has a unique, pleasing flavor and texture, renowned by chefs from around the country. 3.5oz jar.

Available Flavors: 

  • Heirloom (plain): to use for everyday cooking.
  • Applewood Smoked: to add a touch of sweet smokiness to your roasted meats and vegetables.
  • Ghost Pepper: just the right level of spiciness. Add a kick to eggs, potatoes, or a salad.
  • Ramp: made with locally harvested wild Appalachian onions. Add to hamburgers, sliced vegetables, or fish.
  • Mushroom Herb: a partnership with Hernshaw Farms which is turning mine land to farm land with their mushroom blocks. A blend of several mushrooms, rosemary, thyme and black pepper. This salt is a natural for meats before cooking. It is also great on tofu and roasted vegetables.
